Don't Let the weather blow away your plans.....
|
|
The Florida Lifestyle has been the lure to many people for many
years. Adverse weather conditions are a fact of life and impact
lives and property throughout the country; from the freezing winters
in the North, to flood and tornadoes in the Midwest to devastating
hurricanes in the South. The only defense to these conditions
are structures that stand ready to confront the threat and in
FLorida that means "Hurricane Ready."
|
 |
"Hurricane Ready"
|
|
|
Hurricane Ready by suggestion means ready to take
the brunt of a storm without additional preparation. This requires
upgrading key elements during construction, which are mostly unseen
on the surface of a completed home.
These include full enclosure, stem wall block and steel construction
and an effective power source to maintain internal living conditions
for the duration of the storm.
|
|
|
|
Full or Partial Enclosure.....
|
 |

 |
Partial Enclosure means just that. The
building perimeter is partially enclosed from the outside elements.
The window and door openings are not sealed and therefore give way
to changing air pressure form the outside. In the event of hurricane
force winds changing air pressure on the outside will create spasms
of imbalance to the air pressure on the inside to the extent that
the structure can collapse or implode.
Shutters to the windows and doors add protection from flying objects
to those vulnerable access points. They have little or no effect
on the air pressure imbalance. A Fully Enclosed structure is designed
to seal all access points and resist the imbalance of internal or
external air pressure. In addition, the opening access points are
protected with high impact glass and structured doors to avoid breakage
from flying objects.

| |
|
Looking Back....
|
|
|
Prior to regulated building controls, hurricane plagued
communities would protect their property from total devastation
by opening all access points allowing the winds to blow through
thereby sustaining an even air pressure. When a hurricane would
threaten the Florida Keys for example, residents would open the
windows and place wooden strips over the openings. This would provide
some protection from flying debris and avoid the build up of air
pressure and the potential risk to the roof and main structures. |
 |
|
Moving On....
|
|
|
|
 |
Improved building materials
and construction techniques applied during construction are key
to providing better protection. Stem wall concrete block and steel
construction together with upgraded roof ties and trusses provide
the core of the structure. High impact glass and structured doors
will seal the openings thereby enclosing the structures from the
elements. PGT
High impact glass is designed to withstand the impact of a 2"
x 4" timber six feet long being thrust at the surface by its
point at 50 miles per hour. (Subject to manufactures spec) A "Fully
Enclosed" structure therefore requires no further external
protection to protect the property from a prevailing storm. The
house is Hurricane
Ready.

Power Source
|
|
| When the power goes out the generator
kicks in. This is provided by an independent generator power source
via an upgraded power distribution panel to transfer from the regular
power source. This can be provided as an automatic or manual device. |

Storm Water Flood Zones |
|
| Flood zones are defined by the state
and recognized by insurance and banking institutions. A Hurricane
Ready home is built above that elevation thereby avoiding flood
damage in the event of rising water. |
| |
South Gulf Cove properties' are designed with these
effective storm defenses giving added protection to your property
at home or away. |
